CODSILS- The Biggest Loser 2015

Without one own determination, one cannot come out victorious when struggling with weight loss. Apart from your own perseverance, support of family and friends also play an important role. CODSILS, Centre for Obesity, Diabetes & Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery SUPPORT GROUP is one such place where one can find all the support to win over the battle of obesity.

The Obesity & Diabetes Support Group Meeting was initiated by Dr Amit Garg, Bariatric & Metabolic Surgeon in 2014 with the vision of offering world-class obesity and diabetes solutions to patients; a dream that has grown by leaps and bounds over the years.

Obesity comes with significant emotional and psychological stress. Bariatric surgery, by enabling sustained weight loss, corrects most negative emotions harbored by patients for lifetime such as depression, low confidence and low self esteem due to obesity. However, some patients who are struggling with obesity and patients after Bariatric surgery too may feel a different type of emotional stress as they disassociate themselves with the old food habits and lifestyle. At Support group meetings people share their struggle and victories. This helps others who are undergoing similar struggle.

Ameen Abdul, 29 yrs old, young man from Afghanistan underwent bariatric surgery by Dr Amit Garg. He was crowned CODSILS- The Biggest Loser 2015 at a similar Support Group Meeting held at Fortis Hospital, Mohali. He shared, “ Everything in our culture is centered around food. It is how we celebrate every significant event in our life. At a young age of 29 yrs I was 164 kgs. Walking few blocks was too exhausting activity for me. I used to get breathlessness. Thanks to Dr Amit Garg and his team for helping me reduce weight through Bariatric Surgery. Now I feel alive and healthy.” He also added, “ Attending Dr Amit Garg’s obesity support group meeting really helped me to make healthy and positive changes in my life style. I have pledge never to abuse my body by eating wrong foods.”

The support group meetings at CODSILS are free of charge and open to our patients as well as other people who are struggling with obesity and problems related to obesity. But prior registration is mandatory to attend obesity support group meetings.
