CODSILS- The Biggest Loser 2018

Obese people have a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes, also known as insulin-resistant. It is a condition where your blood glucose level is persistently high. In obese persons, cells of fat tissues have to process more nutrients than they can manage. The stress in these cells triggers an inflammation that releases a protein known as cytokines. Cytokines then block the signals of insulin receptors, thus gradually causing the cells to become resistant to insulin. Insulin allows your cells to use glucose (sugar) for energy. When you are resistant to insulin, your body is unable to convert the glucose into energy and you end up with a persistently high blood glucose level. Besides suppressing normal responses to insulin, the stress also triggers inflammation in cells that can lead to hypertension and heart disease.

Metabolic surgery or diabetes surgery is a boon for people who are struggling with Type 2 diabetes. Mr Sanjay Bansal , 44 yrs old from Gurgaon, Haryana had diabetes and weighed 138 Kgs. He attended a support group meeting for obesity and diabetes organized by CODSILS (Centre for Obesity, Diabetes & Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery). After understanding the effect of diabetes on his health and after thorough assessment by Dr Amit Garg and his Team, he underwent Sleeve Gastrectomy with Proximal Jejunal Bypass at CODSILS.

He was crowned CODSILS- The Biggest Loser 2018 at Support Group Meeting held at Fortis Hospital, Mohali. He shared, “At a young age i got diabetes followed by Hypertension. Initial management of diabetes required weight loss. I tried many things but all in vain. I diabetes was not well controlled even after taking Insulin. A friend of mine told me about Dr Amit Garg who is the only surgeon who does Diabetic surgery. I got my surgery done from Dr Amit Garg. Immediately after the surgery , my blood sugar levels came to normal. I am not taking any medicines now. My blood pressure always stays normal now. I had a severe case of sleep apnea, which is now cured. God bless Dr Amit and his team”.
