After surgery, it’s essential to continue making decisions that will increase the longevity of the procedure’s results and improve your overall well-being. These include getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, and—you guessed it—having a good Diet plan.

While some Bariatric procedures are temporary (like the gastric balloon) or don’t alter your anatomy (like the gastric band surgery), some are more surgically extensive and need you to follow strict dietary guidelines for the first few months after surgery. Here are the do’s and don’ts of eating after lifesaving surgery known as Bariatric surgery. Diet Plan

Whether you had the gastric sleeve procedure or gastric bypass,  you most likely can’t eat the maximum amount of food as before without any discomfort. Eat small portions slowly to stop overeating or upsetting your stomach.

3. Don’t Drink Carbonated Beverages:

3. Don’t Drink Carbonated Beverages:The gases that make drinks fizzy can build up within the stomach, stretching it out and creating extra space. With more room in your stomach, you”ll feel hungry more often, so drinking carbonated beverages can work against your weight loss goal.

If your procedure involves rerouting from your stomach to a lower portion of your gut, like the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, due to bypass of a length of the intestine, there will be malabsorption of nutrients. Therefore, it’s important to confirm all the foods you eat have a high nutritional content. Additionally, your doctor will possibly recommend taking supplements.

5. Don’t Drink water or fluids along with meals:

In procedures like gastric bypass taking Liquid with meals can lead to quick movement of food into the bowel. This can lead to dumping syndrome, which causes sweating, diarrhea, bloating, cramping, vomiting, palpitations, etc. It is recommended to keep the minimum thirty-minute gap between your meal and the liquids. If you experience dumping syndrome often, speak together with your doctor.
